That’s why we launched our Thinking Forward initiative in 2017—to get equipment manufacturers educated and excited about the potential these technologies have to help them thrive. And, since podcasts are increasingly an important part of the way many people get their information, it only made sense to branch out into this medium to reach our members. Manufacturing Tomorrow Podcast

Manufacturing Tomorrow

Manufacturing Tomorrow is a podcast from the Ohio Manufacturing Institute at The Ohio State University. Host Kathryn Kelley says, “When I began working at the Ohio Manufacturing Institute, each manufacturer’s story was even more captivating than the next. I pitched a “Manufacturing Monday” show to a local NPR talk radio host.  She said it wouldn’t be popular, so I set out to produce the podcast myself.”

When asked about what technologies are going to affect the future of manufacturing the most, Kathryn replied, “Although the Internet of Things, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing are disrupting traditional manufacturing processes, the investment and implementation in a digitally integrated enterprise is the biggest barrier.  Integrating customer-facing information technology with the operations technology of manufacturing is the next frontier, with many challenges and a lack of standardization that must be dealt with by senior management.”

Some of her favorite interviews from recent episodes include Bronson Jones, CEO and owner of Banner Metals Group where he “outlined how additive manufacturing and robotics are disrupting traditional processes, the need to upskill the current workforce as new technologies are introduced and the (near) future of flying cars,” and Bob Welsh, VP of Breakthrough Innovation for Stanley Black & Decker’s Innovation Accelerator team who discussed “his focus to improve and advance SBD’s global innovation processes and impact through Post-It note crowdsourcing and Makerspaces.”
